A Porphyry and Statuary Italian style recycled Chimney-piece

Modern reproduction
This small chimney-piece was inspired by the Italian examples at Paxton and Kenwood House

In the late 18th century many Chimney-pieces made in Rome incorporated blocks of ancient, coloured Roman marbles. The contrast of these extraordinary marbles was characteristic of those productions. Following their example, we have introduced solid sections of Egyptian Porphyry, framed with pearl beading in Ormolu.

Following the restoration of a number of late 18th century Roman chimney-pieces formed from a combination of statuary marble, antique marble from the Roman period, and ormolu we decided to produce a simpler smaller model, which would work in a contemporary room setting.

This modern example has solid panels of red Egyptian porphyry set into solid blocks of statuary marble with ormolu beading.
